Meet the Surgeons

As part of our mission to provide extraordinary care, we offer various surgical options to help you reach your goal of weight loss, improved health and a better quality of life.

Brendon Anthon Curtis, MD

Dr. Curtis attended undergraduate and medical school at the University of the West Indies in Jamaica, where he graduated with honors. After graduating medical school, he completed a General Surgery residency at the Wayne State University, Detroit Medical Center. There, he received the Goldman Humanism Honor Society award for his commitment to medical education and the compassion demonstrated towards his patients. Dr. Curtis also received the Surgical Leadership Award in recognition of exemplary work ethic. He subsequently completed a fellowship in minimally invasive and bariatric surgery.

Dr. Curtis comes to our practice with over ten years of experience in laparoscopic bariatric and general surgical procedures. He is board-certified in general surgery, a fellow of the American College of Surgeons, and a Fellow of the American Society of metabolic and bariatric surgeons.

Dr. Curtis believes in treating patients with the same care and respect he wants for his family. He also believes in being attentive to patient's individual needs and helping to coach them to achieve their desired health goals. Playing volleyball, listening to audio books and spending time with his family, are ways Dr. Curtis maintains his holistic health.

Christopher J. Hart, MD, FACS

Dr. Hart is the Chief of Staff of Emory Johns Creek Hospital and serves as the Medical Director of the Atlanta Bariatric Center at Emory Johns Creek Hospital. Prior to founding Johns Creek Surgery/Atlanta Bariatrics he served as Assistant Professor of Surgery at the Emory University School of Medicine and was a founding member of the Emory bariatric program.

He is a native of Atlanta. After graduating from Vanderbilt University, Dr. Hart attended medical school at the University of Alabama – Birmingham. He performed his surgical residency at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota, finishing as Chief Resident in Surgery. Dr. Hart has been practicing surgery in the Atlanta area for over 15 years.

Dr. Hart has been named one of America’s Top Surgeons by the Consumers Research Council of America and was chosen by his peers as one of Atlanta’s Top Doctors. He has taught courses on the preoperative, intraoperative, and postoperative management of bariatric patients, as well as taught and proctored other surgeons on new techniques in weight loss surgery.

Dr. Hart is a Diplomate of the National Board of Medical Examiners, is Board Certified by the American Board of Surgery, and is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons and the Southeastern Surgical Congress. He is recognized as a Center of Excellence surgeon by the American Society of Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery. He is a member of many other medical and surgical societies, including the Society of American Gastrointestinal Endoscopic Surgeons, and the Society for Surgery of the Alimentary Tract. Dr. Hart is the President-Elect of the Mayo Clinic surgical society – the Priestley Society. He also sits on the Board of Directors of the Emory Johns Creek Hospital and is a member of the Board of Directors of the Emory Clinically Integrated Network.

William H. Johnson, MD, FACS

Dr. Johnson grew up in Florida and South Carolina and attended medical school at the Medical University of South Carolina. He completed his general surgery residency and was named Chief Resident in Surgery at the University of Florida.

He then completed a fellowship at Duke University in advanced laparoscopy and Bariatric surgery and was on staff at Duke University Hospital. He moved to Atlanta in 2006 when he joined Atlanta Bariatrics. Dr. Johnson is certified through the National Board of Medical Examiners and is Board Certified by the American Board of Surgery. He is recognized as a Center of Excellence surgeon by the American Society of Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery (ASMBS) and has performed over a thousand bariatric procedures.

Dr. Johnson has been named one of America’s Top Surgeons by the Consumers Research Council of America. He is a member of many national medical and surgical societies including the American Society of Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery, the Society of American Gastrointestinal Endoscopic Surgeons, the American Medical Association, and is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons (FACS).

Dr. Johnson has taught courses on all aspects of the treatment and care of weight-loss surgery patients. This has included teaching surgeons on a variety of standard surgical techniques as well as updating surgeons on cutting-edge technologies. He has also been involved in national talks on managing all aspects of the Bariatric patient, including preoperative, intraoperative and post-operative care. He has been one of the pioneers of new technologies in Bariatric and General Surgery including single-incision surgery. This type of procedure leaves just one small scar with the surgery, often hidden in the belly-button. He was the first surgeon in the area to perform single-incision surgery for the Lap-Band, sleeve gastrectomy and various general surgery cases including removal of the gallbladder and appendix.

Dr. Johnson is Chief of General Surgery and vice-Chairman of the Department of Surgery at Emory Johns Creek Hospital. He has written multiple papers on the surgical treatment of obesity which has been presented at national meetings and published in medical and surgical journals.

Ahad M. Khan, MD

Dr. Khan attended DJ Sindh Government College in Karachi Pakistan with a degree in Pre-Med. Dr. Ahad Khan obtained his medical degree (Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery) from Army Medical College. Dr. Khan has published many educational articles and is the author of many research publications which include being a research fellow at the Department of Colorectal Surgery at USC in Los Angeles California. Last year he presented papers at the annual meeting of ASMBS and SAGES. He also recently completed a fellowship in Minimally Invasive Bariatric Surgery at UCSF Fresno, CA. Dr. Khan was mentored by Dr. Kelvin Higa (immediate past president of American Society of Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery.) He is married and the father of 2 children.

Michael Williams, MD, FACS

Dr. Michael Williams attended the University of Maryland where he graduated Magna Cum Laude with a bachelor’s degree in biology. He attended medical school at West Virginia University and then general surgery residency in Brooklyn, New York where he was named chief resident in 2000. Dr. Williams completed a minimally invasive surgery fellowship at the Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, Texas in 2001. He has been practicing bariatric surgery in Atlanta, Georgia since 2002.

Dr. Williams is a fellow of the American College of Surgeons as well as a fellow of the American Society of Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery. He has authored numerous articles, book chapters and poster presentations at national meetings. He is Vice President of the Georgia chapter of the American Society of Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery. He is one of the first bariatric surgeons in Atlanta to perform the laparoscopic banded greater curvature plication.

He is the former chief of surgery at Emory Johns Creek as well as Emory Dunwoody Hospital. Dr. Williams is the present chief of surgery at Northside Hospital Cherokee.
