There’s plenty of options available for vegetarian and vegans in Utrecht, including several spots that exclusively serve meat-free meals. There are also several excellent restaurant around the city that have special places on their menus for herbivores such as popular burger bar Meneer Smakers or salad specialists SLA.
1. Oproer Brouwerij

Oproer Brouwerij’s restaurant changes its menu every month in order to make room for seasonal produce and bases its vegetarian and vegan meals around local, organic ingredients. As the restaurant is attached to a craft brewery, their set menu is available alongside three special beers that match perfectly with each dish.
2. BROEI
Restaurant, European, Vegetarian
This cosy vegetarian restaurant lies just outside Utrecht’s historic town centre on the southern side Catherijnsingel canal. BROEI’s menu draws from several international cuisines and includes many hearty items made from versatile vegetables like pumpkin, lentils or beets. Make sure to sample their sourdough bread! It is baked in-house and tastes amazing.
3. SOY
Restaurant, Asian, Vegan, Vegetarian, Fusion
SOY serves an impressive selection of vegetarian and vegan Asian-Fusion meals that are based on classic dishes such as Chinese bami or Indonesian nasi. Many of these dishes include tasty meat substitutes that have been perfected by SOY’s chefs and other protein rich ingredients. While it is always worth checking out SOY’s charming dining room on Antonius Matthaeuslaan, the restaurant also offers takeout service.

4. Gys
Restaurant, European, Dutch, Vegetarian
Gys divides its menu into several categories that includes vegetarian, vegan and gluten-free dishes and serves a mouthwatering selection of organic meals that range from pumpkin curries to meat-free hotdogs. Feel like trying everything? Good news! Gys offers several tasting plates that feature small bites based on their larger dishes.
5. De Werfkring

Like many other restaurants in Utrecht, de Werfkring is located inside one of the many underground wharfs that back onto Oudegracht canal. There’s always something different on offer inside this stunning location, as de Wefkring alters its menu every day.
6. Meneer Smakers
Restaurant, European, Vegan, Fast Food
Even though Meneer Smakers serves many non-vegetarian items it is worth checking out this popular burger bar as its menu includes two meat-free patties and another fully vegan option made from white lupin beans. Their thick-cut, Belgian style fries are also veggie.
7. SLA
Restaurant, European, Salad Bar, Healthy
This popular chain of salad bars has branches all over the Netherlands and manages three minimalist style lunchrooms in Utrecht. SLA’s menu changes with the season and always includes healthy, vegetarian or vegan salads that contain hearty, organic ingredients.
